Could you believe that there is a
secret folder full of Facebook messages that you have never seen! hmm!
The folder is called “other”. It contains
some important messages from important friends with long-since expired offers, information,
congratulations etc.
HOW TO LOCATE IT
Go to your Facebook page. In the
left side panel, click messages. Then, next to the boldfaced word “inbox” you
see a light gray word “other”. Click it to see your hidden stash of messages. You
might be surprised at how much important stuff has been waiting for you there. Really
surprised?
BROWSING ON YOUR PHONE?
Go to your Facebook page, at the
top side panel, click messages. Then, scroll down to the bottom of the page. you
see “view other messages”. Check it to see your hidden messages.
BUT WHY WAS IT HIDDEN?
Why is the folder so buried in
your account that you don’t even get any kind of alert or notification when new
messages arrive there?
This folder is part of Facebook
weird 1$-a-message program. If you try to send a message to someone who’s not
one of your Facebook friends, a dialogue box appears. It offers you two choices:
1, Either you pay 1$ or
2, Condemn your message to that “other”
folder.
Facebook explains that this
program is intended to eliminate span. By limiting inbox – bound traffic to messages
from people you actually now (and people who’ve paid a dollar), facebook can
better assure that you’ll never see junk messages there in.
DON’T BE SURPRISED!
After checking the “other”
folder, you may not find anything in there. It might even be spam or rubbish! In
all of these cases, the “other” folder is doing its job.
BUT…
It’s clear that the “other”
folder system is broken in a very upsetting way. It’s preventing important
communication that Facebook was created to foster.
Let’s hope that Facebook finds a
better solution to blocking unwanted messages because right now, the secret
other folder is swallowing up a lot more than spam.
I urge you to check yours now and
tell us what you see in your “other” folder in the comment box below.
