It is a common practice that
people point to the head whenever they tell you that you don’t have
sense!
This practice
explains that the majority believe that the intellect resides in the brain but
this believe is indeed an erroneous misconception!
Apart from the pumping of blood
that the heart ultimately delivers to the minutest cell, it is also a centre of
consciousness and decision making.
The heart is sometimes used synonymously as soul and
the soul is sometimes referred to as the mind. however the creed of
Ahlu-Sunnah-Wal-Jama’ah establishes that the intellect resides in the heart and
not in the brain. and this is the correct creed of all beliefs as the evidences
of this is cited in the Glorious book of the Creator, the Quran.
have they not travelled
through the land, and have they hearts wherewith to understand and ears
wherewith to hear? verily, it is not the eyes that grow blind but it is
the hearts which are in the breast that grow
blind.
Muslim also reported that the prophet said:
“the piety is here”: he pointed to his
chest because it is the place of decision making and not to his head that
contained the brain.
hence the
Muslim belief is that the intellect resides in the heart and not in the
brain.
henceforth, you point to the heart and not to the
brain whenever you are referring to the intellect.
And Allah knows
best.
